"Aquatics" refers to races that live in or are deeply tied to the element of water. Water gets a bad reputation for being overly "sensitive" and "emotional" as an element, but there is raw power and strength in those native to this element. A stream may be gentle and soothing, but the current of a raging ocean may sweep you under and hold you down if you're not careful. This duality is the very essence of water.
