"Why should we care about mistakes made hundreds of years ago? Because they ripple out and affect us now, and if we don’t fix them, they’ll continue to plague our children. By understanding what went wrong, we can do better—and we must."
Ribbon understands that traditions are built on legacy and that, sometimes, the ugliest parts of that legacy need to be examined, learned about, and atoned for. She spends her days excavating the bones of forgotten soldiers from an ancient war and providing proper funerary rights for the ghosts that linger unmoored. As much as she is a servant of the dead, she is also a defender of the living who reside nearby and are adversely affected by the actions of their ancient ancestors. She’s well aware that intergenerational trauma doesn’t just affect the next generation of mortals, but the land they live on as well.
Ribbon seeks companionship as a way to learn about life—beyond the scope of local history and her service to her spirits. Spending so much time alone in the steppes, roaming, excavating, and performing funerary rites means she’s often isolated from friends, family, and the nearest civilization. Her missions keep her out in the field for months at a time and she is keenly aware that that much isolation with only the dead for company presents dangers to both her internal wellbeing and her mental health. She seeks a companion, an equal, and a friend to accompany her on her missions . . .and hopes it might grow into something more intimate in time.
As a companion, she is a proficient crest wielder (someone who works with sigils to keep malevolent spirits out, to soothe spirits, and to help lay ghosts to rest). She can provide protection, exorcism and banishment (when necessary), and restoration of energies after taxing spiritual experiences. In return, she hopes for someone willing to converse with her, explore, study craft and history, and work on self-improvement together. She hopes to forge a path forward, merging all she has witnessed with new, enriching experiences.
