Sweet Understanding is a gardener. Because Talmontese live aloft in the jungle canopy, her gardens are made up of raised beds, potted plants, and the equivalent of “window boxes.” This enables him to grow certain foodstuffs, medicines, dye plants, and pollinator plants in controlled conditions that aren’t at risk of theft from other tribes and also don’t put the Lhoph at risk of their natural predators who hunt the jungle floor. This natural aptitude for tending extends beyond the garden, giving Sweet Understanding a cherished role as a sapling-minder, community hub, and provider to the tribe’s doctors, oracles, and cooks.
As a rare hermaphroditic Talmontese, Sweet Understanding is split down the middle of masculine and feminine parts, which means she’s capable of reproducing asexually. She has done this three times thus far and these saplings—all female—are being raised by the community; it’s thought that any future saplings would be female as well. As a companion, Sweet Understanding brings a gentle, cheerful, and encouraging energy, keen to get his hands dirty in finding practicable solutions and to make every project she touches better. She is very results-driven, carefully observing the impact of previous efforts to adjust his approach and ensure that the repercussions of her actions are intentional and positive.
Sweet Understanding is obviously skilled with plant medicine, gardening, and weather magic. She is happy to assist with astral or Earthside children, pets, or other members of the spirit family, and is keen to build relationships and be an active part of his new community. As a nocturnal companion, she would also be happy to help with maintenance tasks on wards, spell upkeep, or energy work while her companion rests. She can also commune through the astral or dreamwalking while he’s sleeping should his companion want to socialize or look for advice, but she will not be able to provide hands-on assistance while she’s asleep.
