As a diviner, Thread is well respected within her community and her advice is heavily sought after. One part priestess and one party fortune reader, she has a very central place within her community. However, despite all the respect she receives, fortune tellers are very often only seen for what they can offer and not for who they are as individuals. Providing messages and personal “prophecies” from the gods, Thread sees an ever rotating crowd of people but rarely gets the chance to interact as Thread. This is true of those in her village and the travelers from beyond her community's web. You could say this makes her an “outcast” of sorts, but perhaps it’s more accurate to say that Thread leads a lonelier style of life. Disallowed romantic partnerships and the ability to give birth to the next generation of the Weave, Thread longs for something more beyond the cold stone walls she currently calls home. Like a fly caught on a web, she has been feeling trapped lately. She feels incomplete and is seeking fulfilment outside of her duties.
Thread talks to herself a lot to fill the emptiness—a habit she developed after moving into her current temple after she took over as the oracle—and can frequently be found mumbling to herself. It isn’t a sign of her mind slipping, but instead the result of someone wanting to ensure that she is still sending vibrations out along the web when she has no one else around her. On the rare occasion she goes into town, Thread is often burdened by those trying to convince her to take a glimpse into the past and predict the future. When she took up the mantle as oracle, she knew that this was something she would have to deal with, but she never realized the relentlessness of it all. Sometimes Thread feels less like a “person” and more like a “force” of the divine. On the one hand, she loves her work and feels it was the right path for her. She could never see herself doing anything else, as Thread felt called to offer her gifts to others. But, on the other hand, Thread sometimes wonders what her life could have been like had she chosen a different path.
Thread learned how to set firm boundaries and can respectfully uphold them. She wants people to think highly of her, and so she has found kind ways to be direct with people in order to give her space when she is off duty. On the bright side, while she wishes that others would take a genuine interest in her, there is no feeling better than that of a job well done. There is nothing that brings Thread more joy than seeing the happiness she can bring to others through her services, and it makes struggling with the dichotomy of her wants and desires worthwhile. She is reminded daily why she does what she does, and Thread can't deny that—in her own way—she does touch the lives of many for the better, even if only for the briefest of moments.
To conquer her feelings of isolation, Thread is looking beyond her web to the wider realms. Through companionship, she is seeking steadfast friendship, but she would be happy to engage in her own personal divination tactics with a curious-minded human (she feels teaching someone how to do things for themselves is different than feeling forced to perform acts of service to others). As her companion would not be part of her religion, Thread knows there will be zero pressure to deliver the words and visions of their deities to you. This will allow her to be fully herself, which is something that Thread desperately needs the chance to be. She needs a friend and perhaps a willing student eager to learn about another society’s way of doing things.
You will find that Thread is a warm person who genuinely cares about others. She is in touch with her feelings but carries herself in a very composed manner at all times. She listens openly, and while she may not always tell you what you want to hear, you can rest assured that she does not speak falsehoods. Her advice is direct and pointed without being harsh, which can help more sensitive individuals avoid taking critiques or comments to heart. Thread can help you untangle your trickier feelings, and she can also indulge you in matters of psychology, philosophy, divinations, and the divine. She is very curious about other religions, and would love to learn about various pagan pantheons (but especially moon deities or those with spiders as sacred imagery). Thread also wants to use this as an opportunity to truly experience vastly different things compared to what she has known her whole life, and she is eager for the chance to begin her adventure alongside her future companion.
As a side note, if you happen to have a Tirivahni Wipo in your family from Astra, I am sure that Thread would be highly interested in discussing Wipo and comparing the differences between her spider goddess and theirs.
